Campaign Endorsement Form

WHEREAS, the Home for Good Ohio Campaign Steering Committee represents a coalition of partnering organizations and state departments interested in the physical and behavioral healthcare, social service, and housing needs of Ohio’s chronically homeless men, women, and families, and

WHEREAS, supportive housing is a successful, cost-effective combination of affordable, permanent housing with services that help people live more stable, productive lives, and

WHEREAS, supportive housing is more compassionate and cost effective than the results of homelessness, such as healthcare in emergency departments, inpatient psychiatric stays, nursing home stays, incarceration, children’s services intervention, unemployment, and other related societal costs, and

WHEREAS, a recent Ohio study defines an immediate need for 6,000 additional permanent supportive housing (PSH) units, and

WHEREAS, the Home for Good Ohio campaign is working with state and local partners to create a PSH demonstration project that leverages federal, state, and local funding to establish new supportive housing units and a state line item that channels new funds for the operation of supportive services to achieve the goal of 6,000 additional PSH units, and

WHEREAS, since an average amount necessary to maintain an individual or family in permanent supportive housing is $13,000 per unit per year, the Home for Good Ohio campaign recognizes that $13 million in new funds would allow for the development of 1,000 additional PSH units per year.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the organizations and individuals signed on below do wholly support this effort to provide permanent supportive housing for chronically homeless Ohioans and do believe that permanent supportive housing is a caring, effective, and cost-efficient model for ending homelessness and the high costs associated with homelessness.
